Sound and Deep Listening Practice
Sound Portion of the retreat will focus on the following:
Toning the vagus nerve The vagus nerve is the main nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system which can become out of balance in times of stress. Toning the vagus nerve through voice work, breath, and creative visualization can help the body to return to a state of homeostasis and equanimity. When we vocalize through toning or chanting we are also exercising deep belly breathing, mindfulness and grounding in the present moment which stimulates the vagus nerve, thereby bringing about a rest and digest response in the central nervous system.
Learning how to use musical drone for vocal toning (shruti boxes and other electronic drone instruments)
Basic techniques in metal and crystal bowl playing for meditation and healing
Sound bath

Meal Ritual with
Lauren Tanchum
Meal programming will focus on the following:
• Align our bodies with the wisdom of our plant allies
• Construct a palette around locally sourced organic ingredients to evoke setting and a holistic feeling of nourishment.
• Food will be prepared with gentleness and items considered food waste will be reconstituted as viable ingredients wherever possible e.g. juice pulp, gourd seeds, etc.
• Teach plant-based food techniques that can translate into daily food rituals.
• Enjoy meals as a sangha in ceremonial fashion.
BodySong Collaborations
Sonorium with
Adam Taylor
“Color Palate”
After hours immersive sonorium and food experience
presented by Adam Taylor and Lauren Tanchum
The Sonorium:
Experience color at the crossroads of our many senses.
Step into the Sonorium, an immersive sound therapy experience, newly established in the Hudson Valley. And in collaboration with BodySong, Adam will be providing a group sensory experience of sound and color: layered tones, resonant instruments and live sound woven together within an immersive field of color and light. Each sound and color pairing invites you to notice how tone and hue speak to one another and how they are felt within the experience of the body.
At the heart of this experience is a slow unfolding: color gradients that shift almost imperceptibly, designed in tandem with transitional states of sound. As one tone dissolves into the next, so does the light — inviting you to track the threshold spaces between states rather than fixed moments, and to notice how perception itself softens at the edges.
Space is intimate by design. Depending on group size, you'll be seated or reclining, settled into stillness for a meditative, introspective journey. There's nothing to do here but arrive, soften, and let the sound and light move around and through the body.
This is Sonorium Hudson Valley's first formal group light and sound experience, and this is an invitation to be among the first to explore this territory with us.

Your Questions, Answered
How does BodySong Retreat work?
After you sign up via Matagiri.org, you will be enrolled into our retreat programming and receive an introductory email from our organizers providing details about schedule, attire, dietary restriction requests, and nearby accommodations.
Do I need special equipment?
A yoga mat and props will be provided for stability and comfort during yoga practice, sound bath, and sonorium. If you prefer practicing with your own mat, specific props, personal blankets or meditation cushions, you are welcome to bring your own additional items for personal comfort.
Do you offer accommodations for special dietary needs? And are your meals made with organic ingredients?
The chef will easily accommodate any food allergy and sensitivity needs on an individual basis without compromising the guests holistic experience of the retreat meal programming. And yes, we only use organic ingredients with the intention of also sourcing and building our menus around seasonal produce cultivated within a 50 mile radius of our retreat stay. That being said, BodySong provides a plant-focused menu that includes low processed plant-sourced proteins.
